I've been spending some time recently trying to come up with a way to incorporate daily paintings into my painting routine. I love doing the Thirty Days, but it's not very practical for me on a long-term basis. It seems now I've come up with a couple of compromises to deal with this!
Last June, I had to abandon my Thirty Horses, Thirty Days for the month when one of the horses colicked, leaving seven days unfinished. Plan number one is to make up for those seven days this June. Last June, for part of the month, I portrayed some of the Queen's Plate hopefuls, so this June I thought I would use those seven days to showcase some of this year's prospects. This Sunday is both the Canadian Oaks and Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine, so I'm planning to go and take some photos to use as reference.
Project number two was proposed by a friend yesterday. Just over two weeks ago, we had our one and only foal for the season born on the farm. The filly takes after her mother - very pretty, and with a definite air of entitlement! She's a natural muse. The plan is to do a painting of her once a month for fifty-two weeks, as we watch her grow up. I love the idea. I did my first painting of her yesterday, depicting her when she was just a day old - that's what you see above. It's 5 x 7 oil on Raymar cotton canvas panel.
Even though these aren't strictly part of a Thirty Horses, Thirty Days, I'm going to post them here. Hope you'll follow along as we watch Jubie's filly's first year. Maybe she'll even have a name before the year is up!
$100.00, framed.
